Your Frenchie Puppy's First 30 Days Home: A Realistic Plan

The drive home with an eight-to-twelve-week-old Frenchie is pure joy — and the start of the most consequential month of your life together. The socialization window that shapes adult temperament is wide open now and starts narrowing around 14–16 weeks. Here's a realistic, week-by-week plan calibrated to this particular breed.
Week 1: Decompress and Establish Rhythm
Resist the parade of visitors. This week is about safety, rhythm and the first vet visit (book it within a few days — you want a baseline exam, a vaccine schedule, and a brachycephalic-savvy practice on file before you need one urgently). Set the potty cadence immediately: out after every nap, meal, play session and roughly every hour while awake, with a party for every outdoor success and zero drama over indoor misses.
Nights: crate beside the bed, a warm snuggle toy, and the understanding that a 3 a.m. bathroom run is normal for a few weeks.
Weeks 2–3: Socialization Without the Dog Park
Until vaccinations finish, the rule is exposure without floor contact in high-dog-traffic areas. Carry your puppy through the world: hardware stores that allow pets, sidewalk cafés, the building lobby, car rides. Aim for new surfaces, sounds, people of every description — each paired with treats and an easy exit if the puppy looks overwhelmed.
Start handling drills now while everything is negotiable: touch paws, ears, folds and mouth daily, half a second at a time, treat after each. Future-you, wiping folds and trimming nails on a cooperative adult, will be grateful.
Week 4: Foundations That Stick
By the end of month one you want three foundations holding: a puppy who loves the crate (meals inside, naps inside, door sometimes closed), a name response and a 'sit' that works for everything (sit for the bowl, sit for the leash, sit for greetings), and a potty success rate trending sharply upward. Puppy kindergarten classes that verify vaccines are excellent next steps and double as controlled socialization.
The Brachycephalic Footnotes
Frenchie puppies overheat faster than adults and tire abruptly — keep play sessions short with enforced cool-down naps, never exercise in midday warmth, and introduce the harness, not collar, from the very first walk. Regurgitation more than occasionally, blue-tinged gums, or loud breathing at rest are early-vet-conversation items, not 'wait and see' items, in this breed.
